Patong Beach
Patong is Phuket's main resort, combining a 3-kilometer beach, vibrant nightlife, and developed tourist infrastructure. It's the island's liveliest spot—noisy, commercial, but convenient as a base for exploring all of Phuket.
The Beach
A wide strip of sand with a gentle slope into the water. Loungers, umbrellas, water sports—parasailing, jet skis, banana boats. The water isn't ideal for snorkeling but works for swimming. In monsoon season—red flags and dangerous currents.
Infrastructure
Along the beach and parallel streets—hundreds of hotels from hostels to five-star resorts. Jungceylon mall, Banzaan market, restaurants of every world cuisine. Hospitals, banks, pharmacies—everything at hand.
Bangla Road
The neon heart of nightlife—a pedestrian street with bars, clubs, go-go venues. Opens at sunset, runs until dawn. Thai boxing on open-air rings, street musicians, touts—chaos and energy.
Nightlife
Illuzion and Hollywood clubs—mainstream with famous DJs. Soi Bangla—go-go bars and beer bars. Soi Tiger (Paradise Complex)—LGBT scene. Rock and live music in numerous bars. The atmosphere is more relaxed than Pattaya's Walking Street.
Activities
Day tours to Phi Phi, Similan Islands, Phang Nga Bay. Dive centers organize trips to the best sites. Thai boxing—training camps operate. Spas and massage on every corner.
Downsides
Crowds, inflated prices, pushy vendors, traffic. Beach is overcrowded in peak season. Tuk-tuks are expensive and shameless. The atmosphere is artificial and commercial. For quiet relaxation—other Phuket beaches are better.
Atmosphere and Tips
Patong is convenient but soulless. Use it as a base while relaxing at other beaches. Old Town, Big Buddha, Rawai will show you a different Phuket. High season is November-April; summer is cheaper but rainier.
