Michaelsberg Abbey
Michaelsberg Abbey sits atop one of Bamberg's seven hills and is a former Benedictine monastery founded in 1015 at the initiative of Emperor Henry II. The Baroque church features a unique ceiling fresco depicting 578 species of flowers and herbs, known as the Heavenly Garden. The complex houses the tomb of St. Otto, historic terraced gardens with fountains and pavilions, and the Franconian Brewery Museum in the former monastic brewery vaults. The terrace behind the church offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
