The Amphitheatre of Pompeii is the oldest surviving Roman stone amphitheatre in the world, built around 80 BC with capacity for 20,000 spectators. It hosted gladiator fights and wild animal hunts. It is still used today for concerts and cultural events. Its complete oval design is excellently preserved.
