Jackson Square is the historic heart of the French Quarter, named after President Andrew Jackson whose equestrian statue stands at its center. Surrounded by historic buildings including St. Louis Cathedral, the Cabildo, and the Presbytere, this was the original center of colonial New Orleans. The square is filled with artists, musicians, and fortune tellers. A National Historic Landmark since 1960, it remains the cultural gathering place of the city.
