Free admission to both nunnery and Nan Lian Garden. Donations welcome. Vegetarian restaurant requires payment.
Early morning offers the most peaceful atmosphere. Spring (March-April) and autumn (October-November) bring pleasant weather for garden strolls. The nunnery closes earlier than the garden, so visit the nunnery first. Avoid visiting during heavy rain when outdoor areas may close.
Take MTR to Diamond Hill Station (Kwun Tong Line), Exit C2. Temple and garden are a 5-minute walk. Connected by a footbridge.
The nunnery is an active Buddhist place of worship - dress modestly and maintain silence in prayer halls. The adjacent Nan Lian Garden features lotus ponds, bonsai displays, and the famous Golden Pavilion. Both are free to enter. The vegetarian restaurant Chi Lin Vegetarian serves excellent Buddhist cuisine. Photography is allowed but no flash inside halls.
The Golden Pavilion reflected in the pond is the most iconic shot. The main hall of the nunnery with its traditional architecture is stunning. The circular Moon Gate in Nan Lian Garden frames perfect photos. Early morning light is best for photography.
Nunnery: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Nan Lian Garden: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM.
