Aga Khan Mausoleum
The Aga Khan III Mausoleum is an elegant white marble tomb crowning a hilltop on Aswan's West Bank. Built in 1959 in Fatimid style for Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III, spiritual leader of the Nizari Ismailis, who loved Aswan and visited annually to treat his arthritis. His wife Begum would place a red rose on his tomb daily until her death. The site offers wonderful views of the Nile. The interior is closed to public but the grounds are accessible.
