Book Pompeii tickets online in advance — there is a daily limit of 20,000 visitors
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip — the ground is rocky and uneven
Bring sunscreen, hat and water — there is almost no shade on the site
Avoid July-August — extreme heat makes visiting difficult. Best time: March-May or September-October
Arrive at opening (9 AM) — tour buses arrive around 10-11 AM
