Delft is famous for Delft Blue pottery (Delftware), painter Johannes Vermeer, and TU Delft university. The historic center looks like it did when Vermeer painted 'View of Delft'.
Train from Rotterdam (15 min), The Hague (10 min), Amsterdam (1 hour). Tram line 1 from The Hague. Nearest airports: Rotterdam (RTM) 20 min, Schiphol (AMS) 45 min.
Royal Delft is the only remaining original Delftware factory since 1653. Authentic pieces are expensive but valuable. Beware of cheap Chinese imitations in tourist shops. Look for 'Made in Holland' stamp.

Useful tips for visiting Delft
Visit Royal Delft factory to see authentic Delftware being made. Factory tour + painting workshop available.
Vermeer Centre shows where the painter lived and worked. 'View of Delft' is in Mauritshuis (The Hague), 10 min by train.
Delft is tiny - walk everywhere in the center. Rent a bike only for trips to TU Delft or surrounding areas.
Thursday and Saturday are market days on Markt square. Great for cheese, flowers, stroopwafels.
Climb Nieuwe Kerk tower for panoramic views. William of Orange is buried here.
Many restaurants don't accept cash. Have a debit card ready, Maestro preferred over Visa/MC.
