This route introduces you to Bangkok's spiritual heart — magnificent temples and the Grand Palace. Start as early as possible, ideally at opening time 8:30, to beat the crowds and heat. The Grand Palace is not one building but an entire complex covering over 200,000 square meters. It served as the residence of Thai kings since 1782. The architecture combines Thai, Khmer, and European elements. The main shrine is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) with a small but sacred statue carved from a single piece of jade. Important: dress code is strict. Covered shoulders and knees are mandatory. You can rent appropriate clothing at the entrance, but it's better to prepare in advance. Wat Pho is next to the palace and is famous for its giant Reclining Buddha statue, 46 meters long. The statue is covered in gold, and the soles of its feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl depicting 108 auspicious symbols. The temple is also the oldest school of Thai massage — you can book a session right on the grounds. Cross the Chao Phraya River by ferry (just a few baht) to Wat Arun — the Temple of Dawn. Its 80-meter prang (tower) is decorated with thousands of pieces of Chinese porcelain and seashells that sparkle in the sun. Climb the terraces — the view of the river and city is stunning. If you have energy left, check out Khao San Road — the legendary backpacker street. Here you can eat cheap street food, buy souvenirs, and immerse yourself in a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
