Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall
This impressive museum displays 4 of the 11 original autumn festival floats from the famous Takayama Matsuri, rotated three times yearly. These multi-tiered floats, elaborately decorated with gold carvings and mechanical puppets (karakuri), are masterpieces from the 17th-19th centuries. Karakuri puppet demonstrations are held several times daily. Admission also includes Sakurayama Nikko-kan, a stunning 1:10 scale replica of the famous Nikko Toshogu Shrine featuring 28 buildings. The computerized lighting simulates the passage from sunrise to sunset across the intricate model.
