Skadar Lake (Skadarsko Jezero) is the largest lake in the Balkans and one of the most important bird habitats in Europe. Shared between Montenegro and Albania, this stunning national park features crystal-clear waters, floating water lily fields, and over 280 bird species including the rare Dalmatian pelican. The Montenegrin side offers boat tours from Virpazar (30 minutes from Podgorica), ancient monasteries on small islands, traditional fishing villages, and excellent wineries in the surrounding hills. The lake area has been inhabited for millennia and contains important historical and cultural sites.
