Preseren Square
Preseren Square is the central square of Ljubljana and the heart of the city social life. Named after France Preseren, Slovenia national poet whose bronze statue with a muse stands in the square since 1905, this historic space developed from a medieval road junction. The square gained its current baroque character in the 17th century with the construction of the pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation. After the 1895 earthquake, architect Max Fabiani redesigned it as a hub connecting four streets. Today it hosts festivals, concerts, and is the main gathering place for locals and tourists.
