Plaza de Armas
Plaza de Armas is the oldest square in Old Havana, laid out in the early 1520s. Originally known as Plaza de la Iglesia, it got its current name in the late 16th century when the colonial governor used it for military exercises. The square is dominated by the 18th-century Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, which today houses the City Museum. In the center stands a marble statue of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Cuba's independence hero. The square hosts a second-hand book market from Monday to Saturday and is an ideal place to find rare Cuban books and memorabilia.
