Mitla Archaeological Site
Unique Zapotec and Mixtec site famous for stunning geometric mosaic designs. Unlike any other site in Mesoamerica — no pyramids, but walls covered in interlocking patterns of small polished stone pieces without mortar. Was a religious center and burial ground for Zapotec elite. Its name means 'Place of the Dead' in Nahuatl. Chambers and tombs demonstrate advanced architectural mastery.
