Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built around 350 BC for Mausolus, King of Caria. It gave its name to the word 'mausoleum' in many languages. Although earthquakes and looting destroyed the original structure, the remaining foundations and small museum showcase the scale and grandeur of this legendary monument. Some original sculptures are displayed at the British Museum in London.
