Luzhniki Stadium

Luzhniki Stadium is Russia's main sports arena, hosting the 1980 Olympics and the 2018 FIFA World Cup final. Located in a scenic bend of the Moscow River, the stadium holds over 80,000 spectators and is the center of the country's largest sports complex.

Stadium History

Luzhniki was built in 1956 for the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students. The name comes from the flood meadows in this area. It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1980 Olympics, football matches, and the 2018 World Cup final.

Metro: Sportivnaya (red line) — 700 m walk. Vorobyovy Gory (red line) — 500 m, often closed during events. Luzhniki (Big Circle Line) — nearest. MCC Luzhniki station — 700 m. On match days transport is crowded, arrive early!

Useful tips for visiting Luzhniki Stadium

It's better to buy tickets for matches and events in advance online. Stadium tours are held daily. There are many sports facilities on the complex territory.

The nearest metro stations are Sportivnaya and Vorobyovy Gory. You can walk from the metro in 10-15 minutes. There is a large parking lot for cars.

The stadium hosted the 2018 FIFA World Cup final. Around it there are alleys of fame with monuments to athletes. There is an observation deck with a view of Moscow.

The best photos are taken from the Moscow River embankment and from the observation deck. In the evening, the stadium is beautifully illuminated.
