Ljubljana Castle

Ljubljana Castle is a medieval fortress perched on Castle Hill overlooking the Slovenian capital. Originally built in the 11th century and reconstructed in the 12th century after an earthquake, the castle has served various purposes throughout history including as a military fortress, provincial prison, and now a major tourist attraction. The castle complex includes the Viewing Tower offering panoramic views of Ljubljana and the Alps, the Museum of Slovenian History, the Museum of Puppetry, a chapel, and several restaurants. A funicular railway connects the castle to the old town below.
