Lake Wakatipu
Lake Wakatipu is New Zealand's third-largest lake, featuring its distinctive lightning bolt shape stretching 80 kilometers between towering mountain ranges. The lake displays a unique phenomenon known as the Wakatipu 'heartbeat', where water levels rise and fall by 12 centimeters every 25 minutes. The crystal-clear blue water, ranging from 8-14°C, provides a stunning backdrop for Queenstown. Visitors can enjoy cruises on the historic TSS Earnslaw steamship, kayaking, or simply relaxing on its picturesque shores.
