La Moneda Palace
La Moneda Palace is the official seat of Chile's president and one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in South America. Originally built in 1805 as the royal mint, it has served as the presidential palace since 1846. The palace witnessed significant historical events, including the 1973 military coup. Today, free guided tours are available with advance booking, and the changing of the guard ceremony occurs every other day. The underground cultural center hosts excellent art exhibitions beneath Plaza de la Ciudadanía.
