The Citadelle of Québec
The Citadelle of Québec is the largest British military fortress in North America and remains an active military base. Built between 1820-1850 in a star shape, it serves as the official residence of the Governor General in Québec. The fortress houses the Royal 22e Régiment Museum with historical weapons and military artifacts. Visits include a 60-minute guided tour, the Changing of the Guard ceremony (summer), and the traditional cannon firing. Due to its operational status, the Citadelle can only be visited on guided tours.
