Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine
A large Shinto shrine located within Hiroshima Castle grounds. It enshrines the spirits of those from Hiroshima Prefecture who died in wars. Originally built in 1868, it was destroyed by the atomic bomb and rebuilt in 1965. One of the most visited shrines in the region, especially during New Year (Hatsumode), when it receives over 600,000 visitors. Popular for traditional Shinto weddings and omamori (protective charms).
