Hida Folk Village
Hida Folk Village is a charming open-air museum featuring over 30 traditional houses from the mountainous Hida region, including famous gassho-zukuri farmhouses with steep thatched roofs resembling hands joined in prayer. These 17th-19th century buildings have been carefully relocated and restored. Visitors can explore interiors and watch traditional craft demonstrations (10:00-15:00) including pottery, weaving, and wood carving. In winter (January 10 - February 28, 2026), a magical illumination event transforms the village with special evening opening and reduced admission. Multiple walking routes available: 15-minute, 30-minute, or 1-hour options.
