Green Line
The Green Line is the buffer zone separating the Republic of Cyprus in the south from Turkish-controlled Northern Cyprus. Established in 1974 after the Turkish invasion, it was named because a British officer drew the ceasefire line on a map with green pencil. The buffer zone stretches across the entire island and is monitored by UN peacekeeping forces. In Nicosia, visitors can walk across this unique border, experiencing the last divided capital in Europe and witnessing buildings frozen in time within the abandoned zone.
