Fukuoka Castle Ruins
Fukuoka Castle (Kuroda Castle) was built between 1601-1607 and was one of Japan's largest castles of its era. Today, most of the castle grounds have become beautiful Maizuru Park, housing sports facilities, an art museum, and courthouse. The stone walls, moats, gates, and turrets remain preserved, including the Minamimaru Tamon Yagura turret designated as an Important Cultural Property built in 1854. The castle is one of Fukuoka's premier cherry blossom viewing spots in spring, with over 1,000 trees. The stone walls of the main keep platform offer excellent views of the city.
