Historic Center of Cuenca
Cuenca's Historic Center became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 and stands as an outstanding example of Spanish colonial planning. Founded in 1557 following the rigorous guidelines of Spanish King Charles V, the city preserves its original grid layout from 400 years ago. Cobblestone streets are lined with wooden-balconied houses, plazas, and the majestic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The harmonious fusion of local traditions and European influences reflects a cultural identity preserved through time.
