Conimbriga Roman Ruins
Conimbriga is Portugal's largest and best-preserved Roman site, located 16 km south of Coimbra. It was a thriving city in the Roman province of Lusitania and features some of the best-preserved mosaics in Europe. Highlights include the House of Fountains with stunning mosaics depicting hunting scenes and the four seasons, the Roman baths, the forum, and the defensive walls. The on-site museum displays artifacts including statues and a colossal head of Emperor Augustus. Excavations continue, with new discoveries regularly revealed.
