Children's Peace Monument
This 9-meter monument honors Sadako Sasaki and the thousands of children killed by the atomic bomb. Sadako, diagnosed with leukemia from radiation exposure, became a symbol of peace by folding over a thousand paper cranes hoping for recovery. Unveiled on May 5, 1958 (Children's Day), it now receives approximately 10 million paper cranes annually from children worldwide. The inscription reads: 'This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace in the world.'
