Chichu Art Museum
Chichu Art Museum is an architectural masterpiece by Tadao Ando, built entirely underground to preserve the island's landscape. The museum houses permanent works by only three artists: Claude Monet's famous Water Lilies paintings displayed in natural light exactly as Monet intended, James Turrell's breathtaking light installations including 'Afrum' and 'Open Field', and Walter De Maria's monumental 'Time/Timeless/No Time' installation. Natural light streams through carefully designed apertures, changing the experience of each artwork throughout the day and seasons. Online reservation required for specific 15-minute time slots. Note: From August 1, 2026, the reservation system will undergo changes.
