Casa de la Vall

Casa de la Vall (House of the Valley) is Andorras most emblematic historic building, serving as the seat of one of Europes oldest parliaments for over three centuries. Built in 1580 as a manor house for the Busquets family, it was acquired by the General Council in 1702 and served as the countrys parliament until 2011. Today it operates as a history museum where visitors can explore the historic chambers, learn about Andorras unique political system, and see the famous cabinet with seven locks, requiring keys from all seven parishes to open.

faq.subtitle Casa de la Vall

The famous Armari de les Set Claus (Cabinet of Seven Keys) stored important national documents. Each of Andorra's seven parishes held one key, meaning all had to agree and be present to open it. This symbolized the cooperative governance that has defined Andorra for centuries.

The General Council moved to a new, larger building (Casa de la Vall Nova) in 2011 due to space constraints. The historic Casa de la Vall was converted into a museum to preserve and share Andorra's parliamentary heritage with visitors.
