Al-Ghamama Mosque
Al-Ghamama Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Medina, located 500 meters west of the Prophet's Mosque. Its name means 'cloud' referring to rain clouds gathering when the Prophet performed the Istisqa prayer for rain here. It is also believed to be where the Prophet performed Eid prayer in 631 AD and the funeral prayer for Najashi, the King of Abyssinia. Built during the reign of Caliph Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, it features Ottoman-style architecture with volcanic basalt rock construction.
