Euro (EUR) since January 2023. The old Croatian Kuna is no longer valid. Croatia is also in Schengen zone - no border controls with EU countries.
To Split: bus 5h (EUR20-30) or train 6h. To Dubrovnik: bus 9-10h (EUR25-35) or fly 1h. Bus is cheaper, plane is faster for Dubrovnik. Book at getbybus.com or flixbus.
Cafe culture is Zagreb's soul. 'Spica' - Saturday morning coffee ritual on Tkalciceva. Croatians sit for hours over one coffee. Very cheap (EUR1.50-2). Don't rush!
Useful tips for visiting Zagreb
Take the shortest funicular in the world (66m) from Lower to Upper Town. Only €0.53 one way, runs every 10 minutes. A Zagreb tradition since 1890.
Museum of Broken Relationships is unique and emotional - collection of objects from failed relationships with stories. One of world's most original museums.
Visit Dolac Market in the morning (before noon) for fresh produce and authentic atmosphere. Try 'štrukli' (cheese pastry) at a nearby bakery.
Lotrščak Tower fires a cannon every day at noon - a tradition since 1877. Free to climb for city views. Be there at 11:55!
