faq.subtitle Salta
Best time is spring (September-November) and fall (March-May) when weather is warm and skies are clear. Avoid December-February due to heavy rains and potential road closures.
Salta is generally safe. Watch for pickpockets in tourist areas, never leave belongings unattended, and use taxi apps rather than hailing on the street.
Try local empanadas baked in clay oven, locro (hearty winter stew), and tamales. Salta is famous for having the best empanadas in Argentina.
Salta is at 1,200m, but trips to Salinas Grandes reach 4,000m. Travel slowly, drink lots of water, avoid alcohol, and don't over-exert yourself. Coca tea helps.
