Dhigurah: The Whale Shark Island

Dhigurah is a 3km-long local island in South Ari Atoll famous for one thing: whale sharks year-round. This thin strip of sand is the best budget base for whale shark encounters in the Maldives.

South Ari Atoll — the whale shark capital of Maldives. 2-hour speedboat from Malé ($40-60) or 20-min seaplane + 15-min speedboat.

The main attraction. Whale sharks gather year-round in South Ari. Morning snorkeling trips daily at 6:00 AM, $60-80/person. 95%+ success rate. Best months: November-April.
