Monterosso is the largest Cinque Terre village and the only one with a real sandy beach. It is divided into an old town with narrow streets and a new town with hotels and beachfront restaurants. Its famous landmark is the giant Neptune statue (Il Gigante) carved into the rock. The perfect place to relax after hiking the other villages.

Train is best - Cinque Terre Express runs every 15 min. Ferries are scenic in summer but weather dependent.

April-May and Sept-Oct ideal. Avoid July-Aug - crowds and heat. Winter is quiet but some facilities closed.

Start hiking early (7-8 AM) to avoid crowds and heat. Popular Sentiero Azzurro trail gets crowded by afternoon.
Book accommodation months ahead for summer - villages are tiny with limited options. Consider La Spezia or Levanto for budget.
Wear proper hiking shoes - trails are rocky and steep. Sandals are dangerous!
