Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is the most important Shinto shrine in Kamakura and one of the city's most significant historical landmarks. Founded in 1063 and relocated to its current location in 1180 by Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of the Kamakura Shogunate, the shrine features striking vermillion buildings and an impressive main approach lined with cherry trees and giant ginkgo trees. The approach from the station leads through three torii gates to the hilltop main hall.
