A striking example of Fascist-era architecture, designed by Marcello Piacentini between 1927-1932. Dominated by the Torrione INA (57m) - Italy's first skyscraper and one of Europe's first. Built on the ruins of a medieval quarter, it represents a controversial model of urban transformation from that era.

It was built as a symbol of Fascist power, destroying a medieval quarter in the process. Mussolini personally inaugurated it in 1932. After the war, Fascist symbols (including a monumental statue) were removed, but the buildings remained. Today it's studied as an important architectural example while acknowledging its complex history.
