Ao Nang is the main resort of Krabi Province, the jumping-off point for excursions to the Phi Phi Islands, Railay, and national parks. It's a compromise between tourist infrastructure and access to the natural beauty of the Andaman Sea.

The main beach is a long strip of sand along a promenade lined with restaurants, bars, and shops. Not the best for swimming (murky water, longtails), but convenient as a base. Nopparat Thara Beach, 10 minutes away, is cleaner and calmer.
