How to get from Faro Airport to city center?

Bus 16 from airport to center (€2.35, 20 min). Taxi/Uber €10-15 (5 min). Airport is very close to city. Free shuttle to some hotels.

Is Faro just for transit or worth staying?

Worth staying! Often overlooked for beach resorts. Beautiful old town, Ria Formosa lagoon, local atmosphere, great food. Perfect base for Algarve without resort prices.
