faq.subtitle Bucharest

Bucharest is very affordable - one of Europe's cheapest capitals. Budget €40-60/day easily. Good meals €5-10, beer €2, taxi rides €3-5. Great value destination.

Only use Bolt, Uber, or Free Now apps - never hail taxis on the street or accept offers from drivers at the airport. App taxis are safe, cheap, and reliable. 10 km ride costs €3-5.

Romanian Leu (RON). Not Eurozone. 1 EUR ≈ 5 RON. Cards accepted almost everywhere. ATMs widely available. Exchange at banks for best rates, avoid street exchangers.

Absolutely. World's second-largest building after Pentagon. 3000+ rooms, absurdly opulent. Book tour in advance (€10). One of Europe's most impressive (and controversial) buildings.

Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Bucharest

Download Bolt before arriving - essential for safe, cheap transport. Bucharest taxi scams are notorious, but app-based rides are perfectly safe.

Book Palace of Parliament tour online in advance. Tours fill up quickly, especially English ones. Morning tours have better light for photos.

Old Town comes alive at night. Great for bar-hopping and restaurant-crawling. Try traditional Romanian food at Caru' cu Bere (historic beer hall).

Village Museum in Herăstrău Park has 300+ traditional houses from across Romania. One of Europe's best open-air museums. Allow 2-3 hours.

Easy, safe and affordable to change money in Romania.

location.payment.currency_exchange

Exchange at banks or exchange offices (no shortage in Bucharest center). None charge commission - best rates at exchange offices, faster than banks. Airport/border exchange rates 10-20% worse. AVOID Euronet ATMs (high fees). ATMs everywhere with max withdrawal RON 700-2000 per transaction. Do NOT exchange on street - scams.
