Skansen is the worlds first open-air museum, founded in 1891 to preserve Swedish cultural heritage. Spanning 75 hectares on Djurgården island, it contains over 150 historic buildings transported from across Sweden, including farmhouses, a church, workshops, and a Sami camp. Staff in period costumes demonstrate traditional crafts. Skansen also has a zoo with 75 Nordic animal species including wolves, bears, lynx, elk, and reindeer. The Baltic Sea Science Center showcases underwater life.
