Temple History
Buddhism arrived in Korea in the 4th century and remained the state religion for over a thousand years. The modern Jogyesa Temple was founded in 1910 and became the center of Buddhism's revival in Korea.
What to See
The main Daeungjeon Hall houses a golden Buddha statue. A 500-year-old white pine tree grows in front. Colorful paper lanterns are the temple's signature.
