Yellow Pumpkin
The Yellow Pumpkin is an iconic sculpture by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, becoming the symbol of Naoshima Island and Setouchi art. This vibrant yellow pumpkin covered in Kusama's signature black polka dots stands on a pier extending into the Seto Inland Sea, creating one of the most photographed scenes in contemporary Japanese art. The original sculpture was replaced in October 2022 after being swept into the sea by Typhoon Lupit in August 2021. The new version has a 10% thicker outer shell and a hook embedded in the stem for emergency relocation during typhoons. Best viewed at sunset for golden light reflecting off the sea.
