White Temple (Wat Rong Khun)
Wat Rong Khun—the White Temple—is a surrealist masterpiece of contemporary Thai art, created by artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. Blindingly white, adorned with mirrors and fantastical sculptures, it resembles no other temple in the world.
The main building symbolizes Buddha's purity. A bridge over a pond with sinners' hands leads to the temple—this is the path from hell to paradise. Inside are modern frescoes with unexpected images: Superman, Neo from the Matrix, the 9/11 attacks.
