Walking Street Pattaya
Walking Street—a kilometer of neon lights, bars, clubs, and nightlife entertainment that made Pattaya synonymous with Thai sex tourism. This street is the quintessence of Southeast Asian nightlife, with all its contradictions and excesses.
Street Geography
The pedestrian zone opens from 18:00 until early morning. From Pattaya Beach to Bali Hai Pier—an unbroken chain of establishments. Go-go bars, beer bars, discos, cabarets, restaurants—for every taste and budget.
Types of Venues
Go-go bars—girls dance on stage, you can "buy out" their company. Beer bars—open terraces with hostesses and pool. Discos—standard clubs with EDM. Cabaret shows—transvestites in costumes (Tiffany's, Alcazar)—quite family-friendly entertainment.
Reality
The street isn't only about the sex industry. Groups of friends hang out here, couples stop by regular bars, tourists photograph neon signs. There's no aggression—everything is voluntary and open. But moral comfort is individual.
Prices and Scams
Beer at a street bar—70-100 baht. In go-go bars—from 150 baht, "lady drinks"—200-300. Bills may include hidden surcharges—check them. Photographing girls without permission is rude. Bargaining is appropriate everywhere.
Alternatives
Neighboring sois (side streets) are cheaper and more local. Soi 6—a concentration of bars in miniature. Soi Buakhao—expat hangout. Jomtien—quieter and more family-friendly. Sanctuary of Truth—a cultural antidote.
Safety
The street is relatively safe—police are present, fights are rare. Watch your wallet in crowds. Don't get into arguments. Taxis only by meter or agreed price. Drugs mean serious prison time.
Atmosphere and Tips
Walking Street is a shock for the unprepared traveler and routine for regulars. Worth walking at least once—to understand the phenomenon. But Pattaya is more than this street, and Thailand is more than Pattaya.
