Virupaksha Temple is Hampi's oldest functioning temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dating to the 7th century, it expanded under the Vijayanagara Empire. The main gateway tower (gopuram) rises 50m tall. Part of UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple remains an active pilgrimage center today.
