Vilnius Cathedral and Cathedral Square
Vilnius Cathedral is the principal religious landmark of Lithuania, standing at the heart of the city at the foot of Gediminas Hill. The first church on this site dates back to the 13th century, and it has undergone multiple reconstructions until reaching its current Neoclassical form in the late 18th century. The imposing facade with six columns evokes ancient Greek temples. The surrounding square is the largest in Vilnius and hosts national celebrations, Christmas fairs, and concerts. The freestanding Bell Tower of 52 meters was once part of the city fortifications and offers splendid views over the city for a small fee
