Vilna Gaon Jewish Museum
The Vilna Gaon Jewish Museum preserves the memory of Lithuania's Jewish community, once one of the largest and most important in Europe. Vilnius was known as the 'Jerusalem of the North' for its standing as a center of Jewish scholarship and culture. The main Tolerance Center on Naugarduko Street houses collections of Jewish art and both permanent and temporary exhibitions telling the story of Jewish life in Lithuania before, during, and after the Holocaust. The museum operates three separate sites including the Holocaust Exhibition and the Paneriai Memorial Museum where over 70,000 Jews were murdered
