Villa San Michele is an architectural masterpiece built by Swedish physician Axel Munthe in the early 20th century on the ruins of a medieval church and Roman emperor's chapel. It houses a remarkable collection of Roman, Egyptian, and Etruscan antiquities arranged in enchanting gardens overlooking the Gulf of Naples. The famous sphinx statue on the terrace offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views on the island.
