Appian Way
The Appian Way is one of the oldest and most important Roman roads, built in 312 BCE and nicknamed 'Queen of Roads'. The original paving stones stretch through the picturesque Roman countryside, passing elaborate tombs, Christian catacombs, and ancient ruins. The road is ideal for cycling and walking, especially on Sundays when it's closed to cars and becomes Rome's largest pedestrian zone. Rent bikes at the visitor center and explore the archaeological park.
