Vegueta Historic District
Vegueta is the founding district of Las Palmas, established in 1478 after the Spanish conquest. Its cobblestone streets feature colonial architecture, the oldest cathedral in the Canary Islands, and the house where Christopher Columbus stayed before his voyage to the Americas. The district is on Spain's tentative UNESCO World Heritage list and combines over 500 years of history with modern art galleries, fine dining, and a vibrant weekly market. Key museums include Casa de Colon and Museo Canario with pre-Hispanic artifacts
